Things I Thought I would never say, do, think or drink

I am blessed, yes I know this. I have found through this surgery, that people really love me. They have told me, showed me and showered me (ok just my husband and daughter have actually showered me). I have been showered in fellowship, flowers, plants, food, cards. No money, what is that all about?

My sweet sister (a blood relative!!) sent me flowers from SC.
Thanks big little sisssssster
(she is younger but a billion feet taller than me, I am 5'8"):

Yep that’s us!!
All my flowers were beautiful, check them out:

My recovery seems so slow. It has now been 2 weeks!! I have had to take it easy, even if I tried to do something, somehow Danny is right there saying “what are you doing young lady?”. I really do want to take it easy, I want to heal perfectly. I will accept nothing less. After all, my favorite time of the year is coming and well, I have to be in top notch shape!!! I see many hours of baking, decorating, visiting, parties and maybe, just maybe one of the best trips I could imagine coming up.
For the first 3-5 days, peeing was a task. It would take me 5-10 minutes to empty my bladder. This I am assuming was because of the catheter. In my recovery area, in all of my in and out I hear “hold your breath Diane, I am going to remove your catheter” before I could say, what did you just say, the nurse pulled it out and OUCH!!!.
I have had good days and bad. The good days, I have sat on my porch in the cool weather (yep you got it, we had a small cool front come through Florida) for almost 2 days. In my bad, I was hugging the toilet and rushing to the doctors office. Turns out I was not taking my pain meds properly, not entirely my fault, this is the first time I have actually had to take them on a regular basis and have no idea what I am doing. I do now, my top notch doctor got me all situated.
I have found myself doing, saying and searching for things I never thought I would do, say or search for. Like googling constipation, under the skin gas bubbles, throwing up and swelly belly. Then there is me saying (sarcastically of course) to my daughter, “don’t drink mommy’s prune juice”. How about the “I can’t poop”!!!! Who knew that pain pills make you constipated? Now I do!! I have drank prune juice, milk of magnesia, coconut juice, water until my eye balls float and nothing works!!! The swelly belly is your stomach being swollen for only God knows how long after a hysterectomy. There goes wearing my new sexy dress for my husband’s 25th reunion this weekend. But of course my doctor said “there is nothing wrong with wearing a girdle”!! Seriously!! I have reached that level in my life. I know, I'll know, this too shall pass. I let you know about the sexy dress.
We have been blessed with 7 nights of dinners thanks to our dear friends and church members. We have had such tender ribs (yes my friend Carol spoiled us on the very first night), broiled tomatoes, cake, cannolis, cookies (which I did not get one of a batch that my neighbor Kelli made, somehow these disappeared, I am sure in Sweet Man’s belly), pizza casserole, pesto/shrimp gnocchi, salads, Magick cookies (no they are not like pot brownies :P ) enchiladas, and more!!! I take great joy in cooking for my life group every Tuesday night for over a year now. They have all pitched in and delegated the meals for the last 2 Tuesday nights. I think they miss and appreciate me J But I really do love it. I can have 10 things going on in the kitchen and have them all come together at the same time. It is a gift, I know !!
The things I have been most grateful for is the fellowship. I have had hours of heartfelt and lovely talks with some very dear people.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank all of them. I never thought I would have to have such a major surgery, let alone so quickly. Then to have such a support group. I am loved. I know that, I feel that!! I also am grateful to God that He had such wonderful people looking out for me and saw fit for me to make it through just fine so I can be a pain in the neck, I mean a blessing to others for a very long time.
I still have 4 more weeks of recovery. I understand that some ladies take up to a year to fully recover. I refuse to be some ladies.
I neglected to mention one of the meals that was brought to me. I cherished this and looked so forward to it. Not necessarily for the meal itself but for who made it. I always hear how Jody does not cook, her husband Ty does, so I was a bit surprised and hesitant (just for a minute Jody) when she offered.  But then I was excited. I must be pretty darn special if she was going to make an exception and cook for me. This was a wonderful dish!!!! Turkey Quiche!! I got Jody’s permission to blog and publish the recipe. She had said she wished she could say that it was a family recipe but it wasn’t. It is actually one that a customer gave her husband. They have a wonderful pest control business called Magic Pest Control. Live in Central Florida?, call them, do it!! I met them through my dogs. What? Yep, our dogs had gotten out of our yard and we immediately put up signs. I got a call from a nice man named Ty. He waited with them until we got there. He refused a reward. But I just had to use him for our pest control. That was about 10 years ago. And it was not until our oldest daughter was getting married, that I got to really know the rest of the family. Here are Ty and Jody, this picture was not used by permission but I could not resist and I will ask for forgiveness later:

And besides, they love me and I love them!!! Aren't they precious.
So here is the Fischer Family Turkey Quiche by default. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. It has a stuffing crust!!!
